Iranian Women Direcotrs (DVD)
A 58 minute documentary about the Iranian women direcots

Directed by: Hamid Khairoldin & Majid Khabazian

Iran is producing some exciting films today.  However, one of its industry's most fascinating contradictions is that contrary to the post-revolution status of women in Iran the number of women filmmakers who produce exceptional works is constantly increasing.

In this documentary, some of the well-established Iranian directors and actors as well as scholars and film critics from Britain unveil the reasons behind this phenomena and the increase in the number of women filmmakers in Iran.

The producers of this documentary took advantage of a situation during 4-10th of May 2001 in London Barbican. In this event a selection of films from women direcotrs in Iran were screened.  It was then followed by a one-day conference about Iranian women filmmakers at SOAS University in London.  In this 58-minute documentary, women directors and actresses will speak about their incentives and motives for making their films.  A narrator will link different interviews to the clips of their films.  The main shootings have been set in London and Tehran.  In this film, directors such as Rakhshan Bani Etemad, Tahmineh Milani, Samira Makhmalbaf, Shirin Neshat, and actresses such as Niki Karimi and Fatemeh Motamed Aria are presented.

Apart from manu clips from the mentioned directors, some behind the scene footages from them have also been put in the film and even in few cases the camera follows their daily lives in Iran. The film also covers the period tat Tahmineh Milani was arrested on September 2001 in Tehran for her controversial film "The Hidden Half"
