Recently
released from prison, two young musicians -
a man and a woman - decide
to form a band.
Together they travel the underworld of
contemporary Tehran s
earching for other
players. Forbidden by the authorities to
play in Iran, they plan
to escape from their
clandestine existence, and dream of
performing in Europe.
But with no money and
no passports, it won’t be easy...!
Fueled by
frustration with the myriad prohibitions governing life
in Iran, "No One Knows About Persian Cats" strings an
improvised tale around Tehran's underground indie-rock
scene. Good-looking, shot-on-the-fly fifth feature by
Bahman Ghobadi ("Half Moon," "Turtles Can Fly," "A Time
for Drunken Horses"), which blends exciting musical
performances with an undernourished narrative, is
unlikely to be screened legally in the Islamic Republic
but should enjoy a healthy fest life offshore, with
niche arthouse in some territories.
