The election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to
the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran worries everyone
inside and outside of the country. This film reviews why and how the
dream of democracy in Iran remains just that, a dream.
By studying the major political events
during the eight years presidency of Mohammad Khatami, the film
reveals the current climate of Iranian political system. It
questions the compatibility of an Islamic State with freedom and
democracy.
In 1997, Mohammad Khatami, ran as a
moderate for reform. His constituents’ goal and hope was to create
some measures of freedom. The film examines Khatami’s position
during his two terms in office regarding democratic aspiration of
people.
It contains
interviews with two of Khatami’s Reform Doctrine ex-supporters
speaking of their deceptions. They identify the lack of democratic
practices in the society as culpable |
